There are many ways to assess student knowledge of the content in a given course. Traditional forms of assessment (tests, quizzes, essays, etc.) are appropriate for assessing basic content knowledge. Assessing the real-world application of content is often performance-based or skills-based. In addition to proving their mastery of basic content and skills, students also need the vital workplace skill of self-assessment.
