What is Linxus?
The transition from elementary to middle school is one of the most difficult periods in a young person’s life. The calming, familiar surroundings of elementary school give way to dramatic changes when children enter middle school. They must quickly adjust to multiple classrooms, new teachers with varying styles, more books, and more demanding projects and assignments.
Linxus helps students get organized, manage their time, study properly, and develop their character, so they can succeed! The skills they will learn will serve them for a lifetime.
What is Academic Organization?
Typically, when children transition to middle school, the first thing to go is their ability to stay organized. The result is a cluttered locker, a backpack bursting at the seams with too many books and crushed and folded papers, and an empty assignment notebook. The course on Academic Organization provides strategies for using the assignment notebook effectively and staying organized at school and at home.
Keeping students motivated is one of the most difficult aspects of teaching new material. By integrating the latest gameplay mechanics into our courses, students discover learning that is challenging, yet engaging and fun.
Each Linxus course includes pre- and post- testing, so teachers can compare results to measure the effectiveness of the program. This evaluative tool is simple to administer and the results can be analyzed through our convenient dashboard.
On-screen characters, Meg and Simon, help connect learners to the content as they coach them through each chapter. Characters add an emotional element that fosters learning, captures your students’ attention, and keeps them attuned to the content.
How do you encourage students to retain information they have learned? You provide them with strategies and techniques that help them recall information. Each lesson is packed with methods to help students transfer knowledge for maximum retention.
Linxus reinforces each topic with frequent and highly interactive quizzes, called knowledge checks, that students find both interesting and enjoyable. At the end of each chapter, students complete Connect and Reflect activities to further extend learning. Connect activities encourage student-parent interaction about each topic. Reflect activities allow students to connect the topic to their personal experiences.
Linxus courses have been carefully designed to ensure accessibility to all students including those who are color blind, require a screen reader, or need captioning. To this end, color combinations, font size, and captioning, have been thoughtfully applied.
When Linxus is delivered as stand-alone eLearning, it allows users to digest material at their own pace rather than the pace of students who may need additional instruction. Working at their own pace allows students to skip modules they don’t need, retake the ones they do, or reflect on more difficult material and relate it to existing knowledge, which is important for comprehension and retrieval.
Learning is about making mistakes and correcting them, but we all know that failing can be scary. When taken online, Linxus enables students to repeat and explore the material without the spotlight of a classroom setting. Within the courses, Linxus provides feedback that enables students to take chances so they can understand the material better.
Linxus combines the latest instructional design methodologies and multimedia principles to create an immersive learning environment that leads to higher levels of cognitive engagement and thus higher levels of retention. Linxus provides games, knowledge checks, and strategies that help students better retain information. Research shows that students who are regularly engaged perform better, but don’t just take our word for it. Try it!
Linxus courses can be easily adapted to fit your needs. Linxus can be scheduled when you want and where you want—during regular class time, in educational technology classes, or as an assignment outside of class to be completed at the student’s own pace. You can also distribute Linxus as stand-alone eLearning or part of a blended learning strategy; in small, bite sized chunks or as entire chapters. How you decide to use Linxus is entirely up to you!
